“The term is over: the holidays have begun.”

Which, for me, means I get to work. It’s funny, as an academic, I was always fairly self-disciplined. A good many of my friends and acquaintances had trouble with self-motivation, but since I loved what I did so very much (easy enough, when one studies fairy tales!), I was happy to stay immersed. And since there were generally external deadlines of one sort or another … I was also okay clocking out to mess around with my hobbies … you know, my silversmithing, hitting a flea market with a friend, maybe grabbing a martini. Well, except for the last part, I’m maneuvering to make those my job … and I’m stumped as to how to motivate to say “enough is enough.” There’s always more to do – creating, purchasing, listing, packaging, itemizing, accounting, and always, always, always in This Brave New World, interacting with social media. But since it IS fun ….

Otherwise Engaged is more than just viable, it’s thriving -knock wood! – which makes me very happy. So I figure this site should make an absolutely perfect opportunity for expansion! Magpie that I am, my collections haven’t limited themselves to the delicate, manageable, portable treasure that is jewelry. No, there are velvet cloaks and opera coats, diamante-handled umbrellas, kid gloves, cordovan leather boxes … you get the idea! So this will be the non-blingy arm of the business … no doubt trailing marabou and waving a cigarette holder. The gallery of new additions will be mostly available here on this page, or at the tumblr site, or even directly to the sales portal for PartDeco, as the spirit moves you). Here’s to new endeavors!

To be continued …?

Sometimes, like a bolt of lightening, a great new idea descends from the heavens: shattering, electrifying, and totally galvanizing.

Sometimes, it comes in the form of a pun.

See, I design jewelry. And I have a perfectly good blog, and shop, and URL. But given how much more of my work has been going towards the marrying of vintage Art Deco pieces with my own designs, I’ve been worrying at titles for that line for a while now. And while worrying, wily, wily moi experienced the kick galvanic … the other day it came to me, and, lo, it was so good that I immediately (re)started worrying that other people might already have gotten their greedy paws on it. As that’s not the case, a flurry of claim-staking has begun (Etsy: done! eBay: done! Pinterest: done! etc. ….). What on earth do I need another URL+ for? Do I want to split my business? Have one arm for original designs and one for vintage? Transfer the whole shebang?

To be decided ….
